SAN FRANCISCO: Google Inc's Marissa Mayer has been named as Yahoo Inc's new chief executive. Mayer's hiring displays that the Internet company is expected to strengthen its emphasis on web technology and products.
Mayer was one of Google's earliest employees and it was the search engine's first female engineer and has led different businesses at Google consisting the design of its flagship search engine. She was responsible for Google's local and location services.
In May, Scott Thompson resigned as CEO within 6 months on the job after controversy erupted on her academic credentials.
Thompson replaced Carol Bartz, who was fired during September after she failed to revitalise Yahoo.
