DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Roadways Corporation, has announced a steep hike in bus fares by 29 per cent of its hi-tech and ordinary buses, with immediate effect.
Under the new standards, the passengers will have to pay the fare in ordinary buses at the rate of 81 paise per km in the plains areas and Rs 1.26 per km in the hilly areas.
In the similar fashion, the passengers travelling in hi-tech buses will have to bear the fare at the rate of Rs 1.37/km in the plains and Rs 1.62 /km in the hilly areas.
The last increase in the bus fare was announced by the corporation in April 2010. The hike in bus fares was adopted in view of the huge losses od Rs 150 crore per annum by the corporation due to periodic increases in fuel prices during the period.
