NEW DELHI: The Union Development Ministry has approved the proposal of Metro rail networks including Delhi for the periodic revision of fares in order to counterbalance the hike in input costs including electricity prices.
“We have suggested to them (fare revision). It is a part of the mandate. Not only Delhi but every metro has to periodically increase the fares to be viable,” Urban Development Secretary Sudhir Krishna said.
Krishna also said that the ministry was looking to create a rational and transparent formula for fare revision which would be applicable to all Metro rail networks across the country.
The new fare revision system would follow certain parameters like electricity tariff or wage rate in the particular city, he informed.
