NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet may give nod to Rs 4,000-crore multi-pronged plan to handle Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome which killed about 1,000 people in India so far in 2012.
The Cabinet meet may okay the proposals made by the Group of Ministers (GoM) for developing a multi-pronged strategy to control the virus.
The plan comprises strengthening healthcare, water and sanitation facilities for the people hit apart from bringing improving nutrition and rehabilitation plan consisting the five Ministeries of Health and Family Welfare, Rural Development and Drinking Water and Sanitation, Women and Child Development and Social Justice and Empowerment.
Reports suggest that the highest component of about Rs 2,000 crore is for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ministry. The Health Ministry will be making a contribution worth Rs 1,300 crore and the remaining by the other Ministries.
