Sensex rises 99 points in early trade today on firm Asian cues

MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex appreciates over 0.5 per cent in the early trade today on fresh buying by funds and retail investors in tandem with firm Asian cues.

At 9.38 AM, the 30-share BSE index Sensex was higher 99.10 points or 0.59 per cent at 16,776.98 and the broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty was up 29.95 points or 0.59 per cent at 5,084.70.

The top gainers were SBI, L&T, ICICI Bank, Infosys and Tata Motors. Among 30-share Sensex, the volume toppers were ONGC, Tata Motors, GAIL, Coal India and Hindalco. Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, Cipla and Dr Reddy's were the major losers.

All BSE sectoral indices were trading in positive note. Among them, PSU, Realty, Bankex and Oil & Gas witnessed heavy buying with each up by more than 0.9 per cent.
