MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex opened in green today. The markets were trading higher by nearly 0.5 per cent in morning trade on hopes of a rate cut and on positive global cues.
At 10.18 AM, the Sensex was up 115 points or 0.70 per cent at 16,569. The broader National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty was also higher by 23 points or 0.46 per cent at 5,020.
During the session, the volume toppers were SBI, L&T, Tata Motors, RIL and ICICI Bank.
The BSE sectoral indices were trading in the green led by Metal (up 1.24 per cent), Oil and Gas (0.66 per cent) and Bankex (0.62 per cent). The BSE Sensex opened the day at 16,578, while the NSE Nifty opened at 5,037.
The investors are on hopes that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may announce a rate cut on its next scheduled monetary policy review on June 18.
