MUMBAI: The Sensex and Nifty were trading higher by close to 0.5 per cent in the opening session today on the back of sustained buying by funds and retail investors amid a firm trend in the Asian markets.
At 10.01 AM, the 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) index Sensex was higher 120.75 points (0.62 per cent) at 19,485.50 and the 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty was up 32.1 points (0.54 per cent) at 5,928.90.
At the domestic front, investors remain bullish of RBI easing monetary policy in January.
Volume toppers of the session were SBI, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, L&T and TCS. Top five Sensex gainers were Maruti, Tata Motors, ONGC, TCS and Jindal Steel, while the top five losers were HDFC, HUL, NTPC, ICICI Bank and L&T.
All BSE sectoral indices were trading in the green. Among them, auto index was up by 1.41 per cent, metal 1.35 per cent, realty 1.3 per cent and consumer durables 1.16 per cent.
