CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government is slated to start purchase of record 150 lakh million tonnes of paddy in 1,770 notified mandis today as compared to the expected arrival of 135 lakh million tonnes paddy in the present kharif season.
After the state government requested, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sanctioned a cash credit limit of Rs 16,674 crore for October.
Although, wheat from the past season has not been lifted from mandis, the state government is committed that paddy would be lifted within a time span of 72 hours. Punjab Mandi Board and food and civil supplies department have formed the teams for raids and farmers could be approaching the food and civil supplies department officials.
Dispute redressal committees have been established in every mandi, apart from a 24-hour control room where farmers could contact in case of an emergency.
Moreover, the procurement agencies would buy paddy at minimum support price of Rs 1,250 per quintal for common and Rs 1,280 per quintal for grade 'A' in the present kharif season.
