NEW DELHI: The Presidential election will take place on July 19 and votes' counting is scheduled on July 22, as announced by Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath yesterday.
The Election Commission will issue notification for the election on June 16. The last date of nominations is on June 30. Nominations will be scrutinized on July 2 and last date for withdrawal of nomination is July 4.
The secretary general of Rajya Sabha will be the returning officer for the election. Ballot boxes will be used for the president polls as electronic voting machines.
For the Presidential poll, the electoral college is 4896, constituting 776 Members of Parliament and 4120 Members of Legislative Assemblies, including those of Delhi and Puducherry.
The total value of votes is 10,98,882 with that of MLAs being 5,49,474 and that of MPs being 5,49,408. Nominated members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and state Assemblies are not entitled to vote.
