PUNE: Perkins India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of US-based Caterpillar Inc, has announced its plans to develop a greenfield facility for the manufacture of diesel and gas engines at Aurangabad in Maharashtra.
In the same move, the company has probably finalised the location of the new facility and is considering to come on force in the second half of the next year, at the approaching second phase of the Shendra industrial estate.
During the first phase, the plant is estimated to entail the investment of Rs 500 crore. The parent company Caterpillar is seeking Mega Project Status for the plant.
At the proposed plant in Aurangabad, the company is mulling to manufacture its 4000 series engines, which are currently imported from UK and are used in generator sets. The produced engines will be for sale in both the domestic as well as the export market.
Perkins Engines Company Ltd is headquartered in Peterborough, UK and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. In India, the parent company is present through two facilities located in Tamil Nadu where it undertakes the manufacturing of construction machinery and engines.
Globally, Perkins has six manufacturing sites, including two in China. It is a leading manufacturer of industrial diesel and gas engines.
The Shendra industrial estate in Aurangabad is a home to Czech auto maker Skoda, Siemens.
