NEW DELHI: NHPC (previously known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation) clocked 5-10% decline in generation during the last ten day due to the delay in monsoon.
NHPC Chairman and Managing Director ABL Srivastava said, “Average data of the last 10 days indicate 5-10% less generation loss which is approximately 7-8 million units per day.”
NHPC generated 6,000-million units electricity during the April-June period of the present fiscal year, which is 3% lower as compared to the corresponding period last fiscal. The firm generated 6,200 million units power during the first quarter of FY12.
The firm is hoping that the situation would get better as it would be able to make up for the lost generation. Currently, hydro power accounts for more than 22% of India's overall installed capacity of over 200,000 MW.
Previously, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde stated that the power situation in India would improve in the next fortnight.
