BANGALORE: After facing resistance from farmers to the POSCO steel plant recommended in Gadag's Mundargi taluk, the state government is contemplating to shift the unit to an alternative site.
The state government is looking for land in neighbouring taluks for the project in Gadag district, said Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani on the sidelines of a meeting of the CII Southern Regional Council here.
The POSCO representatives are slated to meet him about the new sites.
Last year, the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) had sent preliminary notification to purchase 3,382 acres of land in Halligudi village in Mundargi taluk, which witnessed widespread protest from farmers.
