NEW DELHI: JSW Steel posted 25% jump in crude steel output during May to 7.24 lakh tonnes as compared to 5.77 lakh tonnes seen during May 2011.
The capacity utilisation at the firm's Vijayanagar unit in Karnataka stood at almost 80% during May according to JSW Steel.
The Vijayanagar Works enjoys an annual production capacity of 10 million tonnes.
During 2011, the Supreme Court imposed ban on iron ore mining in three districts of Karnataka dur to environmental concerns and also directed government body to conduct an environmental impact assessment.
Later, it gave permission to the state-run NMDC to mine up to one million tonnes per month and also carry out an e-auction to sell iron ore to steel firms.
JSW Steel's flat product production jumped 31% to 5.12 lakh tonnes during May. The long product production rose 27% to 1.49 lakh tonnes.
