WASHINGTON: Indian IT sector has offered support nearly 2.8 lakh jobs in the US during 2012 amid poor employment situation, said Indian Ambassador to the US Nirupama Rao. It also opted for more than $5-billion investment via acquisitions and green-field projects.
While addressing the Asia Society here, Rao said, “Our IT companies supported 280,000 jobs in the US last year. The unemployment rate in the tech-space in this country is much lower than in manufacturing and that is where the effort is concentrated we believe today - to get back the jobs in manufacturing to this country.”
She also pointed out that India's trade and economic ties with the US has not not great heights as compared to US trade and economic relations with China. She alos stated that works needs to be donwe in this area.
