NEW DELHI: Indian handicrafts sector is looking optimistic on potential export opportunities for Indian handmade items in the Chinese markets.
Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), said, “At the moment, there is growth and scope in the Chinese market for Indian handicraft products. In the last two years, the sector has grown tremendously and the scope for Indian handicraft products have grown in quantum. It is continuously growing market in China and I hope we will turn into a regular business there.”
Recently, the Indian government has made considerable efforts to intensify India's share of exports to China in attempts to reduce the trade deficit between both the countries.
The council is also hoping to strengthen business ties between India and China with such opportunities for Indian handicrafts.
As per the estimations of the council, the handicraft exports is likely to touch $3.2 billion in the current fiscal. During 2011-12, the exports touched USD 2.75 billion.
