NEW DELHI: Country's carpet exports crossed government's target of USD 800-million in the previous fiscal (2011-12) despite the sulky market conditions in the key traditional markets like the Europe and US.
The sector has witnessed nearly 19 per cent growth this fiscal as compared to the corresponding period last year.
In the current fiscal, CEPC expects a increase of 20 per cent and touch USD 960 million.
The council is also concerned about the ongoing challenges of the industry. The industry require government intervention in issues like labour shortages, high interest rates, excise duty on carpet products, etc.
Recently, the council met the Commerce Ministry and highlighted the restrictions faced by the industry.
