NEW DELHI: 45.89-million subscribers opted for mobile number portability (MNP) till April-end as Karnataka got the highest count of 5.11-million requests. The data was unveiled by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
MNP helps the users to change service provider while retaining the same mobile number.
Andhra Pradesh stood at second position 4.44 million and Gujarat at 4.23 million. In January 2011, MNP has been implemented in India and the pilot unveiling of the service was held in Haryana on Nov 25, 2010.
A customer interested to opt for MNP needs to pay Rs 19 to the new operator for 'porting' the number. Presently, the country has more than 920-million mobile phone subscribers.
