NEW DELHI: India emerged as the second largest cotton exporter in the world and follows USA, according to Mr Panabaaka Lakshmi, Minister of State for Textiles in Rajya Sabha.

As per figures released, the states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh are the major cotton producing states in India.

The figures of last three fiscals suggests a marginal up and down in the country's cotton exports, like in 2008-09 country's cotton exports were 35 lakh bales, 83 lakh bales in 2009-10 and 70 lakh bales in 2010-11.

In an attempt to increase cotton exports from the country, the Government of India has placed cotton exports under OGL without any quantitative restrictions.
