NEW DELHI: The government of India has made estimates on the total sugar output from India during the crop year 2010-11, expecting to record total production of 24.5 million tonnes of sugar during the 12 months period of October 2010 to September 2011.
Indian farmers had produced about 19 million tonnes of sugar during the 12 months period of October 2009 to September 2010. The government has estimated to register high sugar production during crop year 2010-11 as it is expecting a good sugarcane yield in the country this year. The government has said that the sugar mills have already produced 13.4 million tonnes of sugar till February 15, 2011.
Registering this high output, the government has declared 16% increase in sugar produce from India during the period of October 2010 to February 15, 2011. India had witnesses11.5 million tonnes sugar output during the period of October 2009 to February 15, 2010.
