COIMBATORE: The indefinite strike of the powerloom workers in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts have entered its second day today. The strike by over 1.25-lakh powerloom units have been seeking 100% surge in work charges.
The Powerloom Cloth Manufacturers' Association has said that this indefinite strike has resulted in the production loss of almost Rs 35 crore. Almost two-lakh workers of these units in Palladam, Avanashi, Perumanallur, Mangalam and Thekkalur have struck work yesterday after the talks with the association had failed to reach any consensus.
Nearly 1.25-crore metres of fabric have been made at these units in one single day.
Moreover, the representatives of powerloom units may meet on September 3 for taking decision on the future course of action although the bipartite talks between the powerloom owners and employees will be held on September 5.
