Hyderabad gets research unit for Zebrafish

HYDERABAD: An exclusive research unit for Zebrafish has been established at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB).

The lab has been carrying out research on Zebrafish. This unit will be laboratory for research on the alternative animal model. This facility has been inaugurated yesterday by Prof Samir K Brahmachari, Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Zebrafish is a native of Indian subcontinent. It came to prominence as a model organism as it offers access to different genetic, genomic and biology information.

Dr Mohan Rao, director, CCMB stated that the Zebrafish genome is similar to the human beings genome.
