AHMEDABAD: Jeera sowing has gone up in the state as the weather has been favourable. On December 27, the jeera acreage was at 229,200 hectare, registering a fall of 4.3% compared to 239,400 hectares, stated the state farm department.
Mr BR Shah, director of agriculture, Gujarat, said, “Though sowing got delayed by around a fortnight, dry weather in the last few weeks have prompted farmers to go for jeera sowing that resulted in bridging the gap.”
Jeera is cultivated October to December and harvested in February-April.
