Govt committed to take agriculture growth target to 4% in 12th Five Year Plan: PM Manmohan Singh

NEW DELHI: Centre will be taking steps to reach 4% agriculture growth target during the 12th Five Year Plan period with the available resources, said Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh gave assurance to the Lok Sabha.

Dr Singh stated that the aim for the 12th Five Year Plan Period for agriculture is 4%.

The Prime Minister stated that the House will be receiving an opportunity to deliberate in detail about the 12th Plan when gets ready.

Minister of State for Planning Ashwani Kumar stated that the agriculture growth target attained during the 11th Five Year Plan has been 3.3%. India needs more efforts to increase the growth rate as it contributes to poverty alleviation and also large number of people are dependent on agriculture.
