MUMBAI: The Group of Ministers (GoM) led by the union agriculture minister, Sharad Pawar will finally decide on the pending drug pricing policy, in a meeting on 27 September. This meeting is a result of Supreme Court’s condemnation of GOM for the failure in finalizing the policy.
The Supreme Court had newly criticised the government on this issue and given challenge that if the government does not conclude the policy in two weeks time, the court will issue an interim order. Subsequently, the government has asked for some more time from the court to confirm the policy on the requests that it is revising the models in other countries.
The major issue before GoM was not the extent of guideline, but the process to fix prices of necessary medicines. The concern remains composite and unanswered as different ministries are restricted to conflicting views.
