PANAJI: The state civil society groups, who have been vocal about the issues of public concern, have now decided to field their own candidates in the March-3 Assembly polls. The first list of four candidates have already been announced.
The list consists of Fr Bismarck Dias, who would be create history by becoming the first Christian priest to contest polls in Goa which has got considerable amount of Catholic population.
The social workers used to distance themselves from politics but now they aim to make a difference by becoming part of the polity. The candidates will be fielded on well-defined and pro-people manifesto.
The coastal state in the recent past seen various street protests on issues regarding the Regional Plan 202, iron ore mining.
Reports suggest that there are160 groups, both from village to state level, who will be backing these candidates.
