CHENNAI: State Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has demanded immediate withdrawal of the recent rise in railway parcel rates. She also criticised the central administration for increasing the railway parcel rates by 25%.
Jayalalithaa said, “I condemn the hiking of luggage and parcel rates by the Centre in which the DMK is a constituent. This move amounts to adding salt to injury of the poor people who are already suffering due to the recent petrol price hike.”
Since most of the commodities such as medicines, pulses, flour varieties, tyres and magazines are transported via trains and hence, the rise is not in favour of the poor and middle-class citizens.
