KOLKATA: The strike called by BJP today to protest against the steepest hike in petrol price has negatively impacted the life in the state capital. The supporters have also disrupted train movement in the city.
Also, only few private vehicles and taxis were seen on the roads, markets were shut down in few areas, according to the state police.
In Howrah, pro-shutdown activists have torched a stationary state government bus. No injuries have been reported so far.
Reports suggest that police arrested 38 people for aiming to disrupt traffic by placing road blockades in the different areas of Kolkata and also Howrah.
The supporters of the shutdown also organised processions and demonstrated in few areas of the city.
It was also reported that train services have been affected in the Sealdah section of Eastern Railway.
