BANGALORE: Industry body Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) will be organising Karnataka Manufacturing Summit along with the Karnataka government's Department of Commerce & Industries here on August 9, 2012.
It is believed that manufacturing sector plays an important role in enhancing economic growth by offering value addition to various sectors. The development of value added products and services becomes only possible via strengthened growth of manufacturing sector. Apart from this, contribution of manufacturing sector for employment generation plays pivotal role.
Few of the key issues that will be discussed at this event are policy framework for India’s manufacturing sector, contribution of manufacturing sector towards economy, imperatives for the successful National Manufacturing Policy (NMP) implementation, state governments role in making manufacturing sector strong and healthy, problems faced by small scale units in manufacturing sector.
With the aim to boost the sector, Centre came up with NMP that hopes to raise the share of manufacturing in the country's GDP to 25% and also offer employment to more than 100 million people by 2022. Karnataka, one of the front ranking states in terms of economic growth has almost similar share
The eminent speakers who are expected to attend the event are Arun Maira, member Planning Commission, Murugesh Nirani, minister for large & medium industries, Karnataka government, Narasimha Nayak, minister for small scale Industries, Karnataka government, Ajay Shankar, member secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC), MN Vidyashankar, principal secretary, Department of Commerce & Industries and also M Maheshwar Rao, commissioner for Industrial Development and director of Industries & Commerce, Karnataka government.
