NEW DELHI: Association of World Election Bodies will be set up soon. The decision in this regard was taken at the Association of Asian Election Authorities' (AAEA) board meeting, which was held here recently.
Presently, the Election Commission of India is the Vice Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA). The five-member executive board of the 17-member AAEA holds annual meeting to deliberate on important issues regarding election management.
VS Sampath, Chief Election Commissioner of India, HS Brahma, Election Commissioner and other officials of ECI attended the meeting. The chairperson of the National Electoral Commission of Korea and Chairperson, AAEA, Justice Nung-Hwan Kim also presided over the meeting. Other nations such as Kazakhstan and Philippines also took part in the meeting.
The setting up of Association of World Election Bodies was earlier recommended by AAEA. The organisation has been formed with the aim to enhance and also promote open and transparent elections.
