COIMBATORE: Multi-national pharma company Abbott India Ltd has announced its plans to set up its first nutrition research and development (R&D) centre in India in collaboration with Syngene, an subsidiary of biotechnology company Biocon and is engaged in contract research.
“The Abbott Nutrition R&D Centre in India will focus on the development of science-based, affordable nutrition products for the country and enable the expansion of Abbott's nutrition product portfolio there,” as per the joint statement issued by both companies.
Over 50 researchers and scientists would be based at the R&D centre to be located at Biocon Park in Bangalore. The centre is likely to be opened in June.
The centre will focus on the development of nutrition products for maternal and child nutrition and diabetes care. Among the products being developed for the Indian market are meal complements for diabetics and pre-diabetics.
Additionally, the centre will also address local taste and texture preferences with new flavours and formulations.
