PATNA: A total of 7,988 villages in Bihar having population of over 2,000 have been linked with banking services till January 2012, as announced by state's Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Sushil Kumar Modi.
There are total 9,213 villages in the state having 2,000 or more population, he informed the Assembly in reply to a starred question raised by BJP MLA, Mr Amrendra Pratap Singh.
The expansion of banking services to the 7,988 villages have been offered through bank correspondents. In addition, 1,727 villages with a population of up to 5,000 have been identified for construction of banking branches with concrete structure.
