Though there are no immediate prospects of early Lok Sabha elections, if one accepts at face value the assertions of Congress and Left functionaries, all parties, especially the constituents of the ruling United Progressive Alliance, UPA, are keeping their powder dry and preparing for the next national electoral contest, which, in any case, they have to face by May 2009.
