The banned United Liberation Front of Asom is planning to target Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and may try to strike even before the Republic Day celebration. Disclosing this to The Asian Age, highly placed security sources said that all police stations have been alerted and directed to maintain strict vigil during the Chief Minister’s movement. Security sources said that they have specific inputs that ULFA has trained some of its cadres for this particular job. In view of intelligence reports, the security measures in and around the Chief Minister office and residence has also been intensified.
Sources did not rule out that possibility of ULFA hiring cadres from some other organizations for executing their plan. The security sources said that security arrangements of some of the VIPs including ministers have also been tightened.
Meanwhile, the ULFA on Thursday called for boycott of the Republic Day celebrations in Assam and other North-Eastern States. In a Press statement issued through e-mail, the publicity secretary of the outfit Rubi Bhuyan appealed to the people to boycott the Republic Days celebrations in the State.
