Trishul missile test fired |
 |
India tested its short range, surface-to-air Trishul missile from a mobile launcher at a test range in Orissa on Jan 19.
The three metre-long missile, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), was launched at 12.53 p.m. from a test range at Chandipur.
An unmanned microlight aircraft served as the target for the test.
The missile, which has a range of about nine kilometres, can engage targets like aircraft and helicopters flying between 300 and 500 metres.
The DRDO has developed three variants of the Trishul, which forms part of India’s integrated guided missile development programme, for use by the Army, Air Force and Navy.
