Tamil Nadu stirrings : DMK set to part with NDA ? |
 |
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam (DMK) is increasingly drifting away from the BJP leaders and appears to have made up their mind to part company with the National Democratic Alliance, and is now only waiting for a clear signal from Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The top decision-making body of the DMK is holding a meeting on September 20 and it is at this meeting that the decision is likely to be ratified, after which an announcement may only be a formality.
There is also no word on when the DMK might withdraw its ministers from the Union government in the event of it quitting the NDA. It has two ministers in Vajpayee’s government - environment minister T.R. Baalu and minister of state for health and family welfare A. Raja. Technically, even the ailing Murasoli Maran remains a Cabinet minister, though without a portfolio.
