Over 4000 held for traveling on fake papers |
 |
The arrest of Paramjeet Kaur and Amarjeet, who were trying to emigrate posing as BJP MP Babubhai Katara’s wife and son respectively, was just one in a series of similar incidents in which over 4000 people were apprehended at international airports while trying to travel on the basis of fake or forged documents during the past three years.
Incidentally, in each case, the people were trying to emigrate with the intention to disappear abroad. Besides, subsequent probes revealed that all had tried their luck with the help of one or the other agent who used to work with the help of their network in foreign countries.
Arrest of as many as 404 agents in the past three years is a testimony of what the probe revealed. The year-wise break up of the official figure, disclosed in the Rajya sabha last month, shows that while 1,492 such travelers were apprehended in 2006 (during January-December), 1608 were caught in 2005 and 1072 in 2004.
