North East : Centre, NSCN(IM) to continue dialogue
News Behind The News

September 29, 2003

entre’s emissary K Padmanabhaiah has held extensive parleys with the top leadership of Naga militant outfit NSCN (I-M) in Amsterdam to iron out differences on the demand for “Greater Nagaland” and decided to continue the dialogue process in November somewhere outside India.

Padmanabhaiah, along with Intelligence Bureau director KP Singh, met NSCN (I-M) Chairman Isak Chishi Swu, General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah and the outfit’s so-called “ministers and steering committee members”, including Raising, Puni Mao, Launga Lang and Q Ticcu, last week and held a “thorough” discussion on the “entire range of issues”.

The talks were aimed at “ironing out major differences” between the Government and the NSCN (I-M) leadership on the group’s demand for a Greater Nagaland, informed sources said referring to the parleys held in Amsterdam for three day from September 17.

The sources said Padmanabhaiah and Singh held three meetings with the NSCN (I-M) leaders and would continue their discussions in the first week of November this year outside India to narrow down areas of disagreement.
