Naga peace talks : NSCN (K) seeks to rein in rival |

Ahead of the crucial peace talks between the Centre and the NSCN (Isak-Muivah) in Bangkok, scheduled for the end of this month, the NSCN (Khaplang) has impressed upon the Centre the need for strict enforcement of ceasefire ground rules in Nagaland.
In a meeting with Home Ministry officials on Jan. 18, NSCN (K) delegates made a case for “controlling” the activities of the NSCN (IM). “The situation has become quite alarming since last year as clashes have erupted frequently,” said C. Singson, an NSCN (K) functionary and chairman of the ceasefire monitoring cell.
The outfit reiterated the demand for removal of Lt. Gen. (retd) R.V. Kulkarni who is the government representative in the monitoring cell. They suggested that security forces deployed in Nagaland be given “strict instructions” about enforcing the ground rules, which have been violated repeatedly.
In Kohima, Nagaland Principal Secretary (Home) Banuo Z. Jamir said in a release that the meeting appealed to all sections of people - both overground and underground - to desist from issuing provocative statements that might jeopardise the peace effort.
