Meghalaya : Restructuring of MBSE - Khasi students make peace |
 |
Khasi organisations showed signs of making peace following the state-level committee’s recommendations on restructuring of the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education but Garo groups made no bones of their resentment.
The Khasi Students Union (KSU), which has been agitating for the restructuring of the board, and the 21 organisations supporting it called off their agitation last week and decided to co-operate with the government to streamline the board’s functioning.
The tone was different in the Garo hills with a few non-government organisations yet to accept the recommendations in its present form.
In its report submitted on August 29, the committee had suggested several measures to revamp the board like appointment of a full-time executive chairman to head the board in Tura with directors and officers of the same rank to head its four wings administrative, finance, academic and accreditation and examination. It also suggested setting up of a regional office in Shillong under a director to cater to the needs of the Khasi, Jaintia and Ri Bhoi districts.
