Meghalaya : Lapang bends to Danggo pressure |

Meghalaya Chief Minister D.D. Lapang appears to have given in to the pressure mounted on him by Assembly Speaker M.M. Danggo, who is eyeing a place in the Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Ministry.
Sources said Lapang had made up his mind to accommodate Danggo in the ministry after the ensuing budget session was over. The budget session is scheduled to begin on Friday.
Danggo had last week openly expressed his unhappiness at the “lack of representation” of MLAs from West Khasi Hills district in the MDA ministry, which was enough to communicate that he was pointing to a promise made by Lapang to accommodate him in the MDA ministry.
Sources said Lapang was trying to kill two birds with one stone. He feels that Speaker Danggo’s outburst against him and the move by the Congress MLAs to replace him as the Chief Minister may be contained by accommodating Danggo in the ministry, the sources added.
Another source close to the MDA said the chief minister had made up his mind to appoint Rymbai as the Speaker, replacing Danggo.
