Manipur : Please-Lalu move on CM’s mind |
 |
Two months after clinching three seats in the Manipur Assembly election, Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders are now looking to party chief Lalu Prasad to fetch them a ministerial berth.
Lalu had held an hour-long meeting with the party members from Manipur last month and assured them all help.
“Now there may be an RJD minister, after all,” said a party source. Lilong legislator Mohammad Helaluddin Khan is the party’s choice, the source said.
Sources said Chief MinisterIbobi Singh could accommodate an RJD member in his ministry just to please the Union Railway Minister.
Manipur is thirsty for infrastructure projects and the Chief Minister believes even a symbolic presence of the RJD might help his cause.
The RJD leaders in Manipur, however, acknowledge that the party’s demand could antagonise the Congress MLAs. N. Ibohal, general secretary of RJD, Manipur unit, said his party understood the chief minister’s predicament in the face of demands from his own party. “Ideally, we would be happy to have the works or flood control and irrigation portfolios, but it is up to him. We are confident he will respond to our request.”
