Manipur : CM’s appeal to insurgents |
 |
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh made an impassioned appeal to
all insurgent groups of the state to eschew violence and sit for talks with the Government.
“Bloodshed will not bring about solutions to the problems we are facing today. We should sit together and hammer out solutions to these problems and accelerate the pace of development,” Ibobi Singh said at a function commemorating the state’s 34th anniversary of statehood.
The appeal came a day after four militant groups of the Northeast called for a boycott of Republic Day functions in the region. The groups include the Manipur People’s Liberation Front, which is a conglomerate of three banned organisations active in the state.
The Chief Minister said continued insurgency had stunted Manipur’s growth and it was time to make up for the lost years. “We all are citizens of this great country. We enjoy all the rights being enjoyed by the people of other states. If we approach and present our cases with justification before the Centre, it will listen and redress all our grievances.”
