Mahanta keeps AGP on tenterhooks |
 |
Former AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said he would decide on whether to appear before the party’s steering committee only after consulting Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, whose relationship with him is on the mend after several years of estrangement.
Mahanta received a letter asking him to appear before the party’s steering committee on January 28. The AGP founder member and former chief minister, however, insisted that the party had only made a “request” and not ordered him to attend the meeting. “They (party leadership) used the word ‘request’,” he said.
Mahanta and Phukan have made it clear that they are not averse to discussions with the AGP leadership, provided they are invited and not summoned for explanations.
