Kashmir : No time frame for solution - PM |
 |
The Prime Minister has made it clear that no timeframe can be stipulated for a solution of the Kashmir issue which has been around since Partition of the sub-continent.
In interviews to mediamen after his return from Delhi, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has been talking of a deadline of 12 months to settle the Kashmir dispute.
Speaking to journalists in New Delhi on May 30, Manmohan Singh said that terrorism emanating from Pakistan remains the major stumbling block in settling the Kashmir issue. The statement is significant against the backdrop of terrorist attacks in Srinagar and also indications of ISI-inspired terrorist activities even in the national capital, Delhi. There are also indications from Kashmir that after the snow starts melting, the terrorists in camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir would be making renewed efforts to infiltrate into the Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have launched a major drive to repair the damage caused to the fencing along the Line of Control by the heavy snowfall during the winter. Nearly five per cent of the fencing damaged in the snowfall has been repaired so far. The snow had not melted in the higher reaches so far and the fencing would be repaired there when the snow melts.
