Discuss nuclear deal in Parliament : Vajpayee |
 |
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has demanded an assurance from the Government that no agreement with the United States on nuclear cooperation would be entered into without a thorough discussion in Parliament. In a two-page statement issued in New Delhi on July 6, he expressed apprehension that the nuclear deal would be concluded before the end of the year and that it would ‘conform’ to highly objectionable provisions of the Hyde Act.
Two BJP leaders, Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie, who released Vajpayee’s statement said, the main aim of the Hyde Act is to stop roll back and eliminate India’s nuclear weapons capability. They said it would compromise India’s quest for a credible nuclear deterrent.
