CAG glare on Tripura |
 |
The Tripura Government’s performance has drawn flak in the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) for the financial year that ended in March 2007.
This has come as a surprise in the light of the “financial discipline” highlighted by the Manik Sarkar Government and the Centre’s reported praise of the State’s track-record in maintaining sound finances.
The Finance Department has come under the scanner for its faulty handling of funds sanctioned by the Centre. According to the report, the Government failed to utilise Rs 1.58 crore for development of poultry farming, goatery and piggery.
It said in 2003 the State Government had failed to utilise Rs 1.68 crore sanctioned for the Animal Resource Department. “The State Government had sought an extension of time for utilisation of funds, but it failed to do so even after the extension was granted,” the report says.
Apart from this, the State Government had earlier lost an interest of Rs 28.24 lakh from banks because of lack of vigilance on the part of the Treasury Department.
