 |
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has reiterated that efforts were being made to bring the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) to the negotiating table and expressed hopes over the ‘positive signs’ that are being received.
The Union Government, Gogoi said, is on the verge of issuing a letter inviting the Ulfa for talks. Expressing his confidence over the outfit’s return to the negotiating table, the Chief Minister said : “the Centre will surely issue the letter soon and Mamoni Raisom Goswami has agreed to be the link person.”
The Chief Minister also referred to the ‘success’ achieved in curbing insurgency in the Bodo areas, pointing out: ‘Elections to the Bodoland Territorial Council are scheduled for next month.’
Terror tag not to affect talks
Answering a question on the US decision to include Ulfa in the list of terrorist organisations, the Chief Minister said it will have no impact on the peace process with the outfit.
Chief Minister Gogoi was in the national capital last week to attend a meeting of the girls’ education and common school systems committee under the Human Resource Development Ministry. He also met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and briefed her on the political scenario in the state. Asked about the possibility of an electoral tie-up with any party for the forthcoming Assembly polls, he said, ‘The Congress is keeping its doors open and nothing can be ruled out.’
