The Peoples’ Party of Arunachal, the first regional party of the state that had merged with Janata Dal (JD) in 1989, was formally revived in Itanagar on August 22. Former Arunachal Congress president Kamen Ringu was appointed the acting president of the party.

Comprising members of the breakaway faction of the Arunachal Congress, the newly formed party held its first meeting on August 21 at Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills.

Nearly 15 executive body members of the Arunachal Congress, including party president Kamen Ringu and general secretary Ashan Riddi relinquished the membership of the party on personal ground.

The general body meeting held on August 23 adopted a slew of resolutions, including formation of a drafting committee compris¬ing Ashan Riddi as the chairman and Nani Bath and Otem Moyong as members.

The committee will be empowered to draft the constitution of the party.
