Army to act against officer for fake Siachen battles |

The Indian Army has said it would initiate disciplinary proceedings against a second officer for staging fake battles on the Siachen glacier, the world’s highest battlefield.
An Army spokesman said disciplinary proceedings would be started against Col. K.D. Singh as a “consequence of the establishment of some facts during the court martial proceedings against Maj. Surinder Singh in the Siachen case”.
Surinder Singh was dismissed from service and sentenced to three years in rigorous imprisonment by a military court last month after he was found guilty of faking battles with Pakistani forces on Siachen in a bid to earn gallantry awards.
He filmed these “battles” that featured Indian soldiers posing as Pakistani troops.
K.D. Singh was Surinder Singh’s commanding officer. “The summary of evidence against Col. K.D. Singh will commence soon,” the spokesman said.
On Jan 11, however, the Delhi High Court stayed the military court’s sentence against Surinder Singh on a petition by him.
