On a two-day visit to the northeastern States, Indian Army Chief Deepak Kapoor on June 24 reviewed security and operational preparedness in Assam and Nagaland, a defence official said in New Delhi.

Kapoor, who was accompanied by Lt. Gen V.K. Singh, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, and Lt. Gen R.K. Loomba, met Nagaland Governor K. Sankaranarayanan in Kohima.

"In a brief interactive session at Raj Bhavan, the Army Chief assured of continued support and full cooperation from security forces to the civil administration in maintaining peace, harmony and security within the framework of agreed ceasefire in Nagaland," a senior Army official said.

Kapoor was also briefed by the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) about the security situation in the State and the operational preparedness of the Assam Rifles.

"He also visited the Gajaraj Corps at Tezpur and reviewed the overall security scenario in the State of Assam and activities along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh," the official added.
